PeopleFinders has been aggregating public records — court filings, property records, voter rolls, old phone listings — since 2002, which means most people who search their own name run into it sooner or later. It's also less obvious to navigate than some competitors: the opt-out page isn't linked from the homepage, so you either need the direct URL or have to dig through the footer. Once you're there, though, the process itself is simple — no fee, no account, and email verification instead of a phone call.
Step 1: Find your listing
Go to peoplefinders.com and search your name with a city and state to narrow the results. Open the listing that matches you and note the details shown — age range, past cities, possible relatives — so you can confirm it's the right record in the next step.
Step 2: Start the opt-out request
Navigate to peoplefinders.com/opt-out — there's no link to it from the main site, so use the URL directly or find "Do Not Sell My Personal Information" in the footer. Search for your listing again inside the opt-out tool and select the record you want removed.
Step 3: Submit your email for verification
The form will ask for your full name and an email address. This is how PeopleFinders confirms the request is coming from you rather than a script — there's no phone-verification step in the standard online flow.
Step 4: Confirm the email link
Check your inbox for a message from PeopleFinders and click the confirmation link inside it. That link expires 24 hours after it's sent, so don't let it sit unread — if it expires, you'll need to resubmit the request from Step 2.
Step 5: Wait for processing
PeopleFinders states removals take up to three business days; in practice it's often faster. If you'd rather not use the online form, PeopleFinders also accepts opt-out requests by phone at (877) 551-9688.
PeopleFinders and USPhonebook share a parent company
PeopleFinders is operated by Confi-Chek, Inc., a Sacramento-based public-records company that also runs USPhonebook. The two sites maintain separate listings and separate opt-out forms, so removing yourself from PeopleFinders does not automatically clear your USPhonebook profile — you'll need to run that opt-out separately if you show up there too.
Why it's worth checking back
PeopleFinders doesn't generate the data it shows — it collects it from thousands of public-record sources and republishes it, then refreshes that pool on an ongoing basis. An opt-out suppresses what's listed today; it doesn't stop a new address or phone number from feeding a fresh listing weeks or months later. That's the part a one-time removal can't solve on its own.
