PeopleSmart is no longer the consumer people-search site it started as. It now sells business contact and company data to sales teams, and the record it holds on you is a work profile: name, job title, company, city, and the work email and phone number attached to them. That record lives in what PeopleSmart calls Contact Search, and it has its own opt-out, hosted on PeopleSmart's own site. The removal is free, doesn't require an account, and doesn't ask for ID.
Step 1: Open the opt-out page
Go to peoplesmart.com/svc/optout/search/contact_optouts. You can also reach it from the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link in the footer of any PeopleSmart page, or from the "Opt-Out" link in the sidebar of the site's help pages.
If you've seen an older guide pointing you at peoplesmart.com/optout-go, that link is dead: it now redirects to PeopleSmart's B2B marketing pages, not to an opt-out. Older guides also describe PeopleSmart handing its removals off to BeenVerified's suppression tool. That's no longer how it works. The form is PeopleSmart's own, and completing it does not remove you from BeenVerified.
Step 2: Search for your record
The search form is a single first and last name field, plus Job Title and Company (both optional) and a City field, with a state dropdown set to "All" by default. Because this is a business database rather than a residential one, the company you work for (or used to work for) is usually the fastest way to narrow it down. Fill in what you know and click "Search."
The page is behind a Cloudflare bot check, so give it a moment to clear before the search runs.
Step 3: Select your record and submit the opt-out
Results come back as contact cards showing name, job title, company, and location — no age, which is what makes a common name harder to pin down here than on a residential people-search site. Use the title and company to identify yourself, then start the opt-out on that record and give an email address for the request.
Step 4: Confirm by email
PeopleSmart sends an email confirming it has processed the request. Watch for it, because the removal isn't complete until that confirmation lands, and the site's stated timing is measured from that point, not from when you hit Search.
Step 5: Wait about a day
By PeopleSmart's own account, once you have the confirmation email your record drops out the next time its Contact Search index refreshes, in most cases within 24 hours. That's noticeably faster than the multi-day windows typical of residential people-search sites.
If you're a judge, prosecutor, or law enforcement
PeopleSmart handles Daniel's Law / Covered Persons requests separately, by email rather than through the automated form. Write to privacy@peoplesmart.com with either a screenshot or link to your record on the site, or your full name, date of birth, city and state of residence, and email address. Covered Persons include current, former, and retired federal and state judges, prosecutors, and law enforcement, plus immediate family members in the same household.
If you're outside the United States
Non-US residents can submit a Data Subject Request by emailing privacy@peoplesmart.com with your full name and the information you want removed, instead of using the search form.
Why it's worth checking back
Two things bring a PeopleSmart record back. The first is scope: opting out of Contact Search removes that record, but PeopleSmart says your name may still appear in the other search services it offers, which the Contact Search opt-out doesn't cover. The second is the data supply. PeopleSmart buys records from data partners, and when a partner sends a new record it can't match to the one you removed, that record goes live as a fresh listing. PeopleSmart's own instruction in that case is to email privacy@peoplesmart.com and ask for the new record to be removed too — which means the site openly expects re-listing to happen.
That's the piece a one-time removal can't solve by itself: it's a recurring check, not a single errand.
